mechanism test - experimentation 3

I wanted to experiment on the mechanism I sketched earlier; tube, elastic band and arrow.

I found myself a small notepad with hard covers and a big red spring.

This was the right equipment for the role of bow.

I then got myself an elastic band and tied on to each sides of the spring.

I decided to use magnets to avoid arrows falling down from the bag.

Then I will stick a small metal piece on the end of the arrow.

I had a great help with making the tubes in the workshop.
Foundation students weren't allowed with some machines unless we had the metal induction.
However, a technitian taught me how to use it and I got a permission to use the machine by myself. It was really fun learning a new machine.

mechanism of placing the arrows

one of the ideas which my friend and i came up was 'blowing through a straw'. if you blow something in the straw it will go out in one direction. therefore, i will make a tube where an arrow will go through.

one surface will be hard and the other won't really matter if it's wobbly or not. when firing an arrow, the bag will be resting on my left arm so the hard surface will have tubes.

bow & arrow mechanism

The blue coloured bit will be something stretchy. It will either be an elastic band or tube depending on which works better and how I will sew it on to the bag. I thought it wouldn't be necessary to have two straps because it will have the role of pulling the arrows ready to be fired.

I wanted to use the idea of really simple 'shopping bag' shape from one of my older posts.

I now should be focusing on the mechanism of the bow and arrow since I've decided the design.

I decided to have the arrows on one side of the bag and an arrow-shaped pattern on the other side. The arrow-shaped pattern is to give a hint to people that it's actually a 'bow and arrow'.
